ADI creatively repurposed the existing pool structure for the City of Coolidge, Arizona, enabling the realization of an ambitious aquatic center complete with a 25-yard competition pool, recreation pool, water play features, and a water slide, resulting in a state-of-the-art facility that meets the diverse needs of the community.
The Challenge
The City of Coolidge, Arizona, faced a significant challenge when it sought to replace an aging 55-year-old pool with a new aquatic center. The city had an ambitious wish list, including the construction of a 25-yard competition pool and a recreation pool featuring a beach entry, water play equipment, and a water slide. While these program elements promised to enhance the city’s recreational facilities, they came with a hefty price tag. The budget fell short of covering the complete demolition of the existing pool and the construction of the desired features.

ADI’s Solution
To address this budgetary constraint, ADI embarked on a creative approach to help the City of Coolidge complete as much of its aquatic center dream as possible. Collaborating closely with the general contractor and the pool builder, ADI made the strategic decision to leave most of the existing pool structure in place and change it to accommodate the City’s vision.
Instead of tearing out the old pool and incurring the expenses associated with backfilling and constructing a new pool structure from scratch, ADI proposed reconfiguring the pool’s layout. The existing pool was transformed into a beach entry area, offering a cost-effective solution. In this space, ADI incorporated several water play features, making it an engaging space for visitors. ADI designed a large water slide next to the pool, further enhancing the recreational offerings of the facility.
Outcome
ADI’s innovative approach allowed the City of Coolidge to achieve its aquatic center goals within their budget. The result was a state-of-the-art aquatic facility that included a 25-yard, 8-lane competition pool alongside a recreation pool with a beach entry, water play features, and a water slide. The City of Coolidge now boasts of a spectacular aquatic center, catering to the diverse needs and interests of its community members.
By repurposing and changing existing infrastructure, ADI enabled the City of Coolidge to provide its residents with a modern and enjoyable aquatic center, ensuring long-term recreational enjoyment for the community.
